Myth 1.4.x User Guide |
Myth 1.4 adds a number of new preferences and features that could probably use a little explaining. We hope this page will answer all the questions you might have about how to make the best use out of Myth 1.4.

Game Options |
- TFL Gameplay: This setting allows simulation of Myth: TFL unit attributes, physics and graphics on both single and multi-player maps. Some 3rd party plugins may not be compatible with TFL gameplay and cause Myth to crash. This is more likely to occur with 3rd party maps that use modified units.
When selecting a 3rd party plugin with TFL gameplay turned on, you will get a dialog box asking you if you would prefer anti-clumping instead. Anti-clumping is a safer alternative which only introduces TFL-like unit spacing and turning instead of the whole range of TFL attributes and physics.
- Plugins: Finally, you can add as many 3rd party plugins as you like without suffering lag. The new plugin management system even allows you to load multiple plugins at once for unusual effects, however, we’re not guaranteeing that certain combinations are a good idea, or even crash proof.

Preferences |
- Rendering Options: If you are running Mac OS 9 or X, you will now have the option to select OpenGL hardware rendering.
- Resolutions: Many new higher resolution modes have been added. For better looking graphics, we recommend using the highest setting your computer and monitor can handle.
- Interface Transparency: Selecting Status or Control bar transparency makes those bars semi-transparent and you will be able to view game rendering behind them.
- Allow Background Tasks: This feature is for PC users only. If you suffer from chat and control lag, selecting this should fix the problem at a very slight cost in FPS rate. It’s also handy for when you want to play MP3s while Mything.
- Use Persistent Ready: This setting will override the need to hit the ready button every time the host changes game options. Shift-clicking on the ready button in a host lobby will also toggle this feature on or off.
- TFL Style Gesture Arrows: This setting changes the look of gesture-click arrows to small triangles instead of the normal Myth 2 arrows.
- Disable Persistent Formations: In Myth 2 when you move a group of units they remember the last formation you used. In TFL this wasn’t the case, and using this setting will mimic that TFL behavior.
- Hide Underwater Objects: This option is used to disable the displaying of projectiles underwater. For some people, underwater projectiles may cause a significant drop in frame rates. This option can also be set in game by pressing Shift-F5 to toggle it on and off.

Controls |
- Right Button Attacks Ground: If you use a standard two button mouse, this setting will make the right button do the same thing as control-clicking on the ground.
- Use Direct Input: Myth 1.3.2 introduced the use of GDI (Graphics Display Interface) in order to eliminate keyboard lag for some PC users. As it turned out, while fixing the problem for some, it also inadvertently introduced keyboard lag for other PC users. If you find you’re having trouble with this issue, try using this setting, which reverts input control back to the way Bungie originally had Myth II set up.
- TFL Mouse Actions: When this setting is enabled, shift-clicking behaves as it did in Myth TFL, that is, shift-clicking is used in melee to attack all units in the area regardless of what types they are..

In Game |
- Status and Control Bars: You can toggle Status and Control bar transparency by hitting Control-F6 or Shift-Control-F6 respectively.
- Mouse Wheel Zooming: If you have ‘Use Direct Input’ selected in your Control preferences and are using a standard PC two-button center scroll wheel mouse, the scroll wheel will zoom the camera in or out.
- 1/4 Speed (solo only): You can now slow a single player game down to 1/4 speed by hitting F1.
- Shift-Control-Click: This combination will force selected units to use their short range attack if they have one, e.g. Archer punches or Infantry charges on ‘Blue & Grey’.
- Double Click with melee: When used with a group of melee units, it will make them concentrate on the enemy you've clicked on.
- Shift-F5: This option is used to disable the displaying of projectiles underwater. For some people, underwater projectiles may cause a significant drop in frame rates. This option can also be set on your preferences screen by checking the "Hide Underwater Objects" checkbox
