Myth II 1.7.2 Released for Linux!

Project Magma is proud to announce the release of Myth II 1.7.2 for Linux.

No longer will Linux players have to resort to using Wine or booting into Windows to take advantage of the latest improvements to Myth II or to play online with other players. Instead, they can now enjoy the same native Myth II experience alongside existing Windows and Mac players of the game.

The Linux release of Myth II 1.7.2 is fully compatible with Myth II 1.7.2 on other platforms, allowing it to run the latest plugins available on The Tain and to play online on Mariusnet.

Download the Myth II 1.7.2 Linux Installer or the Linux Demo today. The Myth II 1.7.2 Linux installer can be used to upgrade an existing Myth II installation or to install the updated version directly using an original Myth II CD.

Going forward, we expect future updates to the game to be released on all three platforms simultaneously.

Renwood banned

ProjectMagma has obtained information that Renwood (aka Michael Mars) engaged in the for-profit sale of original Myth II: Soulblighter materials, owned by Take Two Interactive. These materials consist of the original 3D model files used to render the unit sprites used by the game.

The buyer of the models is a member of the Myth Community. His purpose in buying the models was to give them to ProjectMagma, in the hopes that we could use them for a future improvement. What the buyer did not know was that ProjectMagma already possesses these models, and furthermore, that Renwood had obtained them from us in the first place. Renwood took advantage of the fact that our possession of the models was not public knowledge in order to scam the member into buying them. Not only did Renwood conduct an illegal sale of Take Two's property, but deliberately misrepresented the origin of the models and scammed a member of the Myth Community in order to make a quick buck.

A little backstory seems appropriate here. The models were obtained by ProjectMagma in 2009 for use in a future enhancement to Myth II, currently planned for Myth II 1.8. Their existence was kept secret because we did not want to make a premature announcement about a project that has an unknown completion date. Renwood obtained the models through ProjectMagma for the stated purpose of helping ProjectMagma with Myth II 1.8. The models were given under a restrictions agreement including nondisclosure and prohibiting redistribution. Renwood later broke the agreement when he used the models without permission in his mod, The Wind Age. We did not pursue any action at that time because, unfortunately, the agreement had been verbal and not written and we could not prove anything. Renwood denies any agreement ever existed. Also at the time we felt it was more productive to just ignore him and avoid any drama, especially since Renwood had announced his plans to retire from Myth after January 2010.

Ignoring the problem is no longer an option. Since Renwood's sale of the models, It is now clear to us that he is not retired, but is actively continuing his pattern of malicious and illegal behavior. ProjectMagma does not condone these actions. Therefore, we have no choice: Renwood will be IP banned from The Tain forums, from uDogs hotline (hl.udogs.net) and from the MariusNet server.

Myth II 1.7.1 Released!

Myth II 1.7.1 Final is now available:

http://projectmagma.net/downloads/myth2_171/

Myth II Version 1.7.1 is a bug fix update to Myth II 1.7, containing over 100 individual fixes and improvements.

A few examples of things that were fixed in 1.7.1:

  • Sounds occasionally playing at maximum volume when they shouldn't.

  • Units getting permanently stuck in a clump.

  • The 'Heron Turn' bug, where a Heron would bizarrely turn 90° before healing.

  • Erroneous endgame scoring, famously seen at MWC '09.

  • Netgame crashes when starting a coop with over 102 veterans.

  • A glitch that could cause the last level to become impossible to win.

  • Several serious issues fixed on Windows Vista / Windows 7.

  • A few causes of reduced OpenGL performance.

  • Various small issues with the interface and 3rd party interfaces.

  • Incorrect zoom levels on widescreen monitors.

... And many, many more. A list of changes is available in the 1.7.1 Read Me.

A note to those using custom interfaces: You may notice that the progress bar color has changed. Custom interfaces will need to be updated to take advantage of the new interface-related features in 1.7.1 - including specifying the progress bar color.

Deadfall Released

After months of development by Jon God with help from Zeph, Deadfall, and extensive modification of Quarantine ( Quarantine ) , is finally finished. Deadfall is a Zombie based cooperative survival plugin for Myth II. Playable with up to 15 players, Deadfall pits you against nearly 400 AI controlled zombies.

Without variety, What is a plugin? Deadfall is playable across 15 maps, with 6 unique gametypes and team/ffa variants.

To add another layer to the gameplay, Deadfall is class based, and every round you can choose a class to suit your playing style, be it Rockets, or Medic, there are 8 classes to choose from, each unique with their own pros and cons.

If a player dies when fighting against zombies, he returns from the grave to kill his former team mates to score extra points, and keep them from getting any more points.

Levels range from urban sprawls to snowbound bases, and everything in between, get ready to fight on some of the most varied maps in a plugin yet. You'll find yourself fighting in quarries, deserts, small cities, harbors, and more in a host of Strangelet maps!

Gametype wise, expect some interesting twists, with the normal zombie slaying infection, along with other gametypes including a FPS style deathmatch gametype, with multiple spawn points, and FPS style capture the flag.

Touching on classes, there are some of the more obligatory classes, such as the Medic, and Flamethrower classes, but along with them are more original classes, such as the Seeker, with his plasma launcher, and missiles. There is enough variety to make for some very interesting combinations of classes for co-op.

The cherry on top of the features is the high standard of graphical quality in this plugin, with nearly all sprites much higher resolution then normal Myth II sprites, and all 15 levels completely detail textured. Deadfall will be the prettiest Myth II 1.7 plugin released to date!

After reading all this, what are you waiting for? Go download it now:

http://tain.totalcodex.net/items/show/deadfall-v1

Also, be sure to keep an eye on the Official Site for news an updates!

Myth II 1.7 Public Beta

Project Magma is proud to announce the first public beta of the latest version of Myth II, version 1.7.

The goal of the beta is to find any potential bugs before the final release of Myth II 1.7.

Myth II 1.7 is compatible with 1.6 and 1.5.1, however players are encouraged to play games in which everyone is on 1.7, in order to test the new gameplay fixes.

The beta includes many changes and improvements, for a list of the most important ones, see:

1.7.0-Changes-Brief.txt

Myth II 1.7 is available in four versions, listed below. (Click on the name of a version to download it.)

Windows Modern - recommended for Windows 2000/XP/Vista.

Windows Classic - recommended for older Windows versions, or if you are having trouble with the Windows Modern version.

Mac Universal - recommended for all Intel Mac users and PowerPC Macs with G5 processors and good graphics cards.

Mac PowerPC - recommended for low-end PowerPC macs and those running Mac OS 9.

To install, simply place the Myth II 1.7 Public Beta application in your Myth folder (and create a new short-cut to it, if necessary).

Note: The detail textures feature that will be part of Myth II 1.7 final is not ready for the public beta because we do not yet have all the levels textured.

Please report any bugs found in our official bug report thread

Special Forces 2 Released!

After many years in the making, Project Magma is proud to present SPECIAL FORCES 2.

Work on this project has been going on and off for the past 5 years. Ozone's masterpiece is one of the most innovative coop/multiplayer of the year.

Because of the small amount of people, we believe the best way to release major projects for Myth is to work with version numbers. Like Myth which has always been updated, SF2 will always be updated with new content. We plan on making new maps and updating the plugin. We wouldn't want to keep working on this for another year without giving myth players the opportunity to play. So please enjoy this massive total conversion which has more than 18 new units, including vehicules and infantry units, each with their very own special abilities.

Download it today at The Tain.
